The first stage of the RRB NTPC paper pattern involves a Computer Based Test. This is simply a screening round i.e., the marks of CBT 1 will not be included in the final merit list. Only applicants who have applied for Traffic Assistant and Station Master positions are eligible to take the RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test 2024. In order to qualify, candidates must get a minimum T-Score of 42 on each of the test batteries. Only applicants who pass the CBAT will be placed on a merit list, with the marks achieved in the 2nd Stage CBT obtaining 70% of the weightage and the marks achieved in the CBAT obtaining 30% of the weightage.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test is a screening test. Candidates must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English and 25 words per minute (WPM) in Hindi on a computer with no editing tools or spell check. Usually, eight times the number of vacancies are called for the typing test.

The marking scheme of RRB NTPC includes the marks scored by candidates for each right and wrong answer in the first two stages of the NTPC exam. In the stage 1 paper, there are 100 questions in total from the following three subjects - General Awareness, Mathematics, and Reasoning. Each right answer will give a +1 mark to the candidate, while each wrong answer will deduct 1/3 mark from the scores.
