SSC JHT full form stands for Junior Hindi Translator. This is a highly popular position under the Indian government. The Staff Selection Commission conducts this national-level competitive exam to recruit candidates in these positions of Junior Translators or Junior Hindi Translators for different ministries and departments under the Government of India. The aforementioned posts come under the Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted positions.

The SSC JHT Exam has 2 phases which are Paper 1 and Paper 2. The first phase or Paper 1 consists of multiple choice questions (MCQs) is divided into 2 sections. The second phase or Paper 2 carries descriptive questions and is conducted through the pen and paper mode. Candidates must go through the detailed SSC JHT 2024 Syllabus carefully to achieve a high score.
General Hindi: Phrases and Idioms, Antonyms, Synonyms, Comprehension passages and Knowledge of Hindi language.
General English: Grammar, Comprehension, Sentence Completion and Structure, Unseen Passages, Vocabulary, Articles, Spelling Test, Tenses, Synonyms.
The second phase includes 4 descriptive questions with two of them in which candidates need to translate a passage from Hindi to English and vice versa. The remaining two questions check the writing ability of the candidates and will ask them to write an essay in Hindi and another in English.

The weightage of both SSC JHT Paper 1 and 2 is 200 marks each with a duration of 2 hours. Examinees clearing the first phase (CBT) will be eligible to write the second paper which is the subjective-type or descriptive exam which will be taken in the pen and paper mode. Aspirants must note that Paper 1 will include negative marking where 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. But there is no negative marking in Paper 2.

There are four stages in the recruitment process for the post of SSC Junior Hindi Translator. Candidates must qualify each stage to qualify for the next one. The four stages include the following:
Stage 1: Computer Based Examination (Paper 1)
The CBT or paper 1 is meant to test their language proficiency in Hindi and English. The test will be conducted online and will consist of objective-type questions or MCQs.
Stage 2: Descriptive Exam (Paper 2)
The second stage or Paper 2 is the descriptive exam which tests the translation skills of the candidates. Unlike Paper 1, this exam will be conducted through the pen and paper mode and there will be subjective-type questions for 200 marks.
Stage 3: Document Verification
Those who clear the first and second phases will have to get their documents verified by the authorities. Even those who belong to the reserved categories must submit their category certificates during this step or their claim for SC, ST, OBC, PwD and other reservations otherwise they will not be considered by the authorities.
Stage 4: Medical Examination
Lastly, candidates need to go through a medical examination proving they are fit for the role and don’t have any existing medical conditions.
