INDIAN ARMY TRADESMAN Eligibility Criteria

Only those candidates who are eligible as per the criteria prescribed by the Indian Army can apply for the recruitment. Age Limit

The minimum age limit is 17.5 years and the maximum age limit is 23 years.

Educational Qualification

The candidates should have passed 10 or ITI (except for Syce, housekeeper, and mess keeper) from any recognized University/ college/ institution with 33% marks in each subject.

For Syce, Housekeeper and mess keeper, the educational qualification is 8th pass.

The recruitment for Indian Army Tradesman is conducted in different stages. It is important that you prepare for all the stages. Online Registration- Even before the announcement of the open rally in your state or district, you must register on the official website of the Indian Army. The announcement is communicated via the official website and newspapers. 

Document Verification- After online registration, apply for the rally as and when it is announced. Upload all the documents and generate your admit card. You must appear at the rally ground with all your original documents which are verified there. 

Physical Measurement Test/ Physical Fitness Test

The candidates are assessed based on the physical standards criteria mentioned above.

After PMT, a Physical Fitness Test is conducted which bears 100 marks. PFT includes-

  • 1.6 km Run
  • Pull-Ups
  • Balance
  • 9 Feet Ditch

The marking system for PFT is as follows-

  • Upto 5 min 40 secs- 60 marks (Group I)
  • 5 min 41secs to 6 min 20 secs- 48 mraks (Group II)
  • More than 6 min 20 secs (disqualified)


  • 10 and above - 40 Marks.
  • 9- 33 Marks.
  • 8 - 27 Marks.
  • 7 - 21 Marks.
  • 6 -16 Marks.

Balance- No marks are rewarded for this. It is of qualifying nature.

9 Feet Ditch- No marks are rewarded for this. It is of qualifying nature.

Aptitude Test

This is an additional test that is conducted for Tradesman recruitment. The test is specific to trades. You must prepare well for this test as if you do not pass this, you will not be recruited. Plus it is also important to score well on this test. 40% of the marks are added to consider for the final merit list. 

Medical Examination- The candidates who are fit, both physically and mentally, are recruited in the Indian Army. The candidates are checked whether their vision is proper, whether they are suffering from any diseases, and whether they are perfectly fit physically. Written Examination- This is the last stage of the recruitment process. Those who pass all the previous stages are given admit cards for the written exam, It is conducted on the last Sunday of the month in which the recruitment starts. The particulars are given below in detail.
