What is CUET?

Central University Entrance Test (CUET) is an entrance exam conducted by NTA throughout the country and abroad in over 500 cities, for admitting candidates in UG courses in all the participating institutions, mostly central universities. Thus it was also known as Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET till 2024. It is a computer-based mode for two hours.

It is important to note that NTA has stated the possibility of three slots for some of the CUET UG 2023 test papers with a high number of applications. The timings for the third slot will be announced as they are announced by the exam authorities. 

CUET 2024 Application Process

NTA released the CUET UG 2023 application form on the official website on February 10 and the process ended on March 30. The CUET application form application will be only taken only in online mode on the official website of NTA. The first step of the registration is to enter the basic details such as name, address and contact details to generate login credentials. After logging in with the same, applicants had to fill in their personal and academic details, programme and exam city preference and upload documents for the CUET 2023 application form. Then the applicants had to pay the CUET application fee online via debit/credit card, Net Banking, Paytm and UPI. The below table brings the CUET UG 2023 application fee.

Applicants will get an opportunity to make changes in the fields of their or their parents/guardians' names, date of birth, gender, category, PWBD and choice of universities in the application form of CUET UG 2023 after the conclusion of the process.

CUET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the eligibility criteria set by NTA to apply and appear for CUET 2023. The eligibility parameters are as follows:

     Students should have passed Class 12 from a recognised board in Science or a relevant stream to be admitted to bachelor’s degree programmes in the Central Universities.

     Students in Class 12 who are yet to appear for the Board exam were also eligible to apply.

     There is no age limit for appearing in the CUET UG 2023 exam. 

CUET 2024 Syllabus

NTA released the CUET 2024 syllabus along with the official notification which is the same level as that of the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. The common subjects across the different courses of the CUET syllabus are English, General Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude/Data Interpretation, Analytical Skills, Reasoning and General Knowledge. NTA has released a subject-wise syllabus which students must refer to while preparing for the exam.

CUET 2024 Exam Pattern

NTA released the CUET 2024 exam pattern along with the notification and information brochure. There has been a total number of questions and the number of questions to be attempted in the CUET exam pattern. The pattern varies from Slot I and Slot II. There are Section 1A, Section 1B, General Test and domain-specific subjects in the exam. Section 1A is compulsory, and will be in 13 languages where applicants have a choice to select the language. Section 1B is optional and for those who want to opt for another language from the ones that are a part of Section 1A. Some of the languages on offer are French, Arabic, German, etc. Each question will carry five marks and there will be one negative marking for each wrong answer. 

CUET 2024 Preparation Tips

CUET is an entrance exam conducted throughout the country for central universities. Aspirants should have a prep strategy while preparing for CUET. First and foremost by going through the exam pattern and structure of the test then some of the best books for CUET preparation. After gaining conceptual clarity on each section and subject, they must identify their areas of strengths and weaknesses. They should take regular mock tests and analyse their performance. They should also solve previous years’ question papers.

CUET 2024 Mock Test

The official CUET UG 2024 mock test NTA will be released in an online mode for all subjects and languages. Taking the mock test will give them an experience of the exam pattern and real feel of the exam very accurately. 

CUET 2024 Admit Card

The CUET 2024 admit card will be tentatively released in the second week of May. The CUET UG admit card is a mandatory document which the aspirants must carry to the exam centre. The CUET admit card 2024 is downloaded by logging in with the registration credentials. CUET 2024 Question Paper

The CUET UG question papers consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Aspirants can download the previous year’s CUET UG question paper and solve them.

CUET 2024 Result

The CUET UG 2024 result is declared after a month of conducting the exam by releasing scorecards. The examinees have to log on to the official website with their credentials and download the CUET UG result 2024 cum scorecard.  The CUET result contains information such as candidates’ details, section-wise and overall scores and percentiles and cutoffs.

CUET 2024 Cutoff

The CUET 2024 cutoff will be released separately by each of the participating institutes. The cutoff is the minimum marks one has to secure to qualify for the exam. The qualifying cutoff is released by NTA, and the separate cutoffs for each programme will be released by participating institutes. The CUET cutoff marks are decided based on the factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of test-takers, and seats, among others.

CUET 2024 Counselling

The CUET 2024 counselling is conducted by the participating institutes separately according to the merit list of qualifying candidates after the declaration of the result. Interested candidates need to register and then participate in the counselling process, to be held online. There are three rounds of counselling and the number of rounds may vary depending on the seat vacancy. After the declaration of seat allotment result, aspirants have to accept the admission offer by reporting to the institutes and getting their documents verified. For a few programmes, there will be interviews instead of counselling. NTA will notify about the admission process for those programmes separately in the information brochure of CUET 2024.

Q. When can I apply for the CUET 2024?

A: CUET 2024 application forms were released on February 10 and the application window was open till March 30. NTA extended the last date of application from March 12 in order to provide opportunity to candidates in terms of selecting more programmes/courses and universities.

Q. When will the CUET notification be released?

A. The CUET notification and information bulletin were released by NTA on February 10 along with the application form. NTA released the CUET UG 2024 exam dates on December 15 as part of the common entrance exam calendar.

Q. When is the CUET 2024 exam scheduled?

A: CUET UG exam will be conducted over a window of 10 days from May 21 to May 31. NTA has also announced reserved dates from June 1 to June 7. The exam will be conducted in two slots each day. In case the exam is cancelled for any day, candidates will be given a slot within the reserved time period.

Q: Who conducts the CUET exam?

A: The CUET UG exam is conducted by NTA for admission to Central and other universities of India. University Grants Commission (UGC) was the erstwhile conducting authority of the exam, till 2019, after which NTA was assigned the responsibility to conduct the exam. However, UGC still holds accountability for the exam and announces relevant information and notifications regarding CUET UG.

Q: In which courses can I secure admission through CUET 2024?

A: Through CUET, one can secure admission in various UG courses offered by 41 Central Universities, 36 State Universities, 29 Deemed Universities and 110 Private Universities and three other universities of India. The number of participating institutes has increased exponentially this year.

Q: Is the CUET exam conducted in online mode?

A: From the year 2021 onwards, CUET is conducted in computer-based mode. Till 2020, the exam was conducted in paper-pencil based (PBT) mode. The exam will continue to be conducted in the computer-based mode or online mode.

Q: How many times is CUET conducted in a year?

A: The CUET exam is conducted once a year, but in multiple phases over a window of 10 days. The number of days of the exam may be increased or the dates may be extended in case of unforeseen events such as cancellation of exams, technical glitches, etc.

Q: When will CUET 2024 admit card be released?

A: CUET UG 2024 admit card will be released in the second week of May, around a week before the exam. The admit card of CUET will be released separately for each phase of the exam. Candidates will have to download the admit cards in online mode by logging in with their registration credentials.

Q. How to prepare for CUET?

A. Candidates are advised to strongly go through the syllabus and should understand the exam pattern and marking scheme carefully. Candidates should also solve various sample papers, mock tests and previous years' question papers.

Q. What type of questions are asked in the CUET exam?

A. CUET questions are objective and multiple-choice questions (MCQs) type. The number of questions will vary for each subject or section and paper. There will not be any descriptive question type for CUET UG 2024.

Q. Is there a negative marking in CUET?

A. Yes. There is a negative marking in the CUET exam. For each wrong answer, one mark is deducted. Negative marking will not be applicable in case of unattempted questions.

Q: When will the CUET UG 2024 answer key release?

A: The CUET UG 2024 provisional answer key is likely to be released in the second week of June 2024. Candidates will be given an opportunity to submit challenges or objections against the keys by following the stipulated date and format. The final answer keys will be released along with the result in the third week of June.

Q: When will the CUET UG 2024 result be declared?

A: The CUET UG 2024 result is expected to be declared in the third week of June. UGC had announced the tentative date of result through an official notice released in December 2024. As per that notice, UGC and NTA are aiming to complete the CUET exam by June so that the academic session can commence on time.

Q: When will the CUET UG 2024 counselling process commence?

A: It is expected that the CUET UG 2024 counselling process will be announced by the participating universities in the first week of August. The process will be conducted separately by the universities and it will not be a centralised counselling system.
