NTA had released the official notification for UGC-NET May 2021 exams in February. It is important for every candidate to read the notification carefully to understand the eligibility criteria, and what are the relaxations they can avail along with other important information about the exam. Candidates must check the official notification and ensure that they fall under the eligibility criteria before filling the application form. If a candidate is later found to be ineligible for the exam, the candidature of such candidate shall be cancelled.
The eligibility criteria for UGC-NET is as follows-
For JRF- Not more than 31 years of age as on the 1st day of the month in which the exam is conducted.
An age relaxation of 5years is allowed for candidates belonging to ST/SC/OBC-Non Creamy Layer/PwD/Third Gender/ Women.
5 years of age relaxation is also provided to certain other class of candidates such as-
3 year age relaxation is available for candidates with L.L.M. degree.
For Asst. Professor- There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor profile.
For General/Unreserved/General EWS candidates-
Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% aggregate marks (without rounding off)
For OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates-
Master’s Degree or equivalent degree with 50% aggregate marks (without rounding off)
It is important that you get yourself acquainted with the UGC-NET Exam pattern to prepare yourself accordingly. The exam contains two papers which are conducted on the same day without any breaks in between. The exam is conducted in Computer Based Test mode. The paper consists of multiple choice questions. The mediums of paper are Hindi and English. For English medium candidates, the medium of paper is English only.
Paper -I is conducted to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It consists of questions to assess reading comprehension, reasoning ability, general awareness, and divergent thinking.
Paper-II is based on the subject chosen by the candidate.

There is no defined syllabus for the UGC-NET exam. There are 101 subjects in UGC-NET apart from the reasoning, general awareness, and reading comprehension of Paper-I.
