What is the WB SET Exam?

West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) conducts the WB SET Exam or West Bengal State Eligibility Test every year to recruit eligible candidates in the post of Assistant Professors in various colleges and universities of West Bengal. There are two papers in the WBSET exam: Paper 1 & Paper 2. WB SET Paper 1 is the general paper meant for everyone who applies, and paper 2 is subject-specific and conducted for 33 different subjects. Candidates need to score equal to or more than the cut-off to proceed to the next round. They must ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria of the WB SET exam, which is a master’s degree from a recognized university. There is no upper age limit for West Bengal SET so applicants can apply for this exam at any age.

WB SET Exam 2023 Eligibility

Being eligible for WB SET 2023 is the only option to submit the candidature for this exam. WBCSC can cancel any candidate's application without prior notice if they find that an applicant does not fulfill WB SET exam eligibility points.

       Candidates should have obtained a master’s degree from UGC-accredited universities/institutions with at least 55% marks.

       Candidates who belong to OBC/EWS/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender category will be considered qualified if they have secured at least 50% marks in a Master's degree or equivalent exam.

       Final year master’s students are also eligible to apply for WB SET 2023 Exam.

       If you are a Ph.D. holder and your Master’s was completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result), then you shall be granted 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.

       You can apply for WB SET 2023 only for that subject in which you have done your Master's degree.

       Candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 don’t need to appear for WB SET 2023.

WB SET 2023 Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for West Bengal State Eligibility Test. Candidates of any age can apply to appear in this exam without any issue. There is no relaxation will be needed for reserved category candidates.

WB SET 2023 Exam Pattern

There are two papers in the WB SET Exam, i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2, which are conducted offline. Candidates can check the detailed WB SET Exam Pattern for both Paper 1 and 2.

       All the questions in the WB SET Paper are objective.

       WB SET Paper 1 has 50 questions, while Paper 2 has 100.

       There is no negative marking in any of the WB SET Papers.

       WB SET Paper 1 tests the candidate's reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness, which is common to all candidates.

       WB SET Paper 2 will have questions related to the specialized subject you chose for your Master's. This Paper is different for all 33 disciplines.
