Indian Army General Duty Eligibility Criteria

To join the Indian Army, you must fall into its eligibility criteria to see if you are eligible and fit. You can read the official notification for in-depth details.

Nationality

A citizen of India, or Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with the intention to permanently settle in India can also apply.

Age Limit and Educational Qualification

In order to qualify for the soldier category, a candidate must be aged 17 ½ - 21 years.

The requirement of educational qualification for recruitment as a soldier is that the candidate must have passed SSLC/Matric with 45% marks in aggregate, and 32% in each subject. If the candidate has higher education, then there is no condition of the minimum percentage.

Sex and Marital Status

Only unmarried male candidates can apply.

Physical Standards

The country has been divided into six different geographical regions and the physical standards are also laid down region-wise. Candidates are advised to read the notification to get complete details about the physical standards.

Indian Army General Duty Exam Dates

The selection process of Indian Army G.D. starts with the candidate registering himself on the Indian Army website. Once he is registered, he must check the website every now and then to keep an eye on recruitment in his state. At the time of opening, he has to complete the online application process and an admit card is sent after the online registration is complete. The candidate must take the printout of the admit card, original documents, and photocopies of the original documents to the center.

The document verification is the first step of the selection process. Once the document verification is complete the candidates undergo a Physical Fitness Test.

Physical Fitness Test

The Physical Fitness Test carries 100 marks. It is advised that you start exercising and practicing before the exam to score good marks In PFT. The different tests include-

  • 1 Mile Run.

  • Pull-Ups.

  • Balance.

  • 9 Feet Ditch.

The marking system is as follows: -

1 Mile Run.

  • 5. 40 Mins and below - 60 Marks.

  • 5. 41 Mins to 5.50 Mins - 48 Marks.

  • 5. 51 Mins to 6.05 Mins - 36 Marks.

  • 6. 06 Mins to 6.20 Mins - 24 Marks.

Pull-Ups.

  • 10 and above - 40 Marks.

  •  9 ------ - 33 Marks.

  • 8 ------ - 27 Marks.

  • 7 ------ - 21 Marks.

  • 6 ------ - 16 Marks.

Balance- No marks are rewarded for this. It is of qualifying nature.

9 Feet Ditch- No marks are rewarded for this. It is of qualifying nature.

Medical Standards

The medical examination is a way to ensure that the candidate is physically and mentally fit, does not suffer from any disease, is not impaired in any capacity, and will not be hampered by any physical illness during his service.

Indian Army General Duty Exam Pattern

A candidate who passes the PFT ad medical examination is called in for the written exam on the scheduled last Sunday of the month. The written exam is known as the Common Entrance Exam, the admit card for which is given to the candidates at the rally who qualify in the PFT and Medical.
