Nationality: Applying candidates must be a citizen of India.
Gender: Recruitment for the post of Constable in West Bengal Police requires Male candidates only.
Academic qualification: Candidates can apply for the post if they have successfully passed the Madhyamik exam from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) or the Class 10 final examination from any nationally acclaimed Board.
Language: The candidate must be well versed in the Bengali language, i.e. he must be able to read, speak and write Bengali. However, this criterion may not be applicable to residents of the hilly sub-districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. Provisions laid down in West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 will be applicable to them.
NVF, Home Guard personnel & Civic Volunteers: These Sahayak workers serving in West Bengal Police can also apply if they have completed 3 years in their service.
Age Limit: The minimum age limit is 18 and the upper limit is 27 years, but reserved category candidates are given some relaxation in the upper age limit.
