The main exam has a subjective nature. There are no optional papers, every paper is compulsory. The JPSC Mains Syllabus has six papers in total.
● Paper 1: General Hindi and General English.
● Paper 2: Language and Literature.
● Paper 3: Social Science History & Geography.
● Paper 4: Indian Constitution and Polity, and Public Administration and Good Governance.
● Paper 5: Indian economy and global economy, as well as sustainable development.
● Paper 6: General Science, Environment, and Technology Development.

There are six papers in the Mains which include social science, language, literature, Indian constitution, etc. The JPSC syllabus for the prelims and mains are different.
Paper 6 of the JPSC Syllabus consists of topics related to General Sciences, Technology Development, and the Environment. Physical Science, Life Science, Agriculture Science, Environmental Science, and Science and Technology Development issues will be included in the papers.
The JPSC syllabus for Paper 5 includes Basic features of the Indian Economy, The Economy of Jharkhand, Nature, and Impacts on the Indian Economy and Indian Development Strategy, Economic Issues, and other major topics.
The major topics covered in the JPSC Syllabus for Paper 4 are Indian Constitution and Polity, Public Administration, and Good Governance. Both sections are of 100 marks each Question will be asked about fundamental rights, centre-state relations, laws enacted for good governance, various Judgements in good governance, etc.
The JPSC syllabus for Paper 3 which is social science includes subjects like history and geography. Both sections are of 100 marks each. Candidates need to prepare ancient history, mediaeval history, modern history, etc. In geography, questions will be asked from physical, economic, and social geography.
The subjects such as Hindi Language and Literature, Sanskrit Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Nagpuri Language and Literature, Bengali Language and Literature, and other types of language and literature are the subjects or topics covered in the JPSC syllabus of Paper 2.
The General Hindi and General English paper will be a composite paper with two sections, one in Hindi and the other in English. Both sections have an equal weighting of 50 marks each. Topics such as essay writing, grammar, comprehension, and precis include in Paper 1 of the JPSC Mains syllabus.
