The detailed RRB NTPC selection process is explained in the subsequent sections for a complete understanding of the aspirants. Candidates need to appear in the first Computer Based Test (CBT 1) after filling out the application form, and it applies for all posts. RRB NTPC selection process for CBT 1 involves three sections which must be cleared by the candidates - Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness. It is a 90-minute test carrying a total of 100 marks. The marks obtained at this stage will determine the eligibility of the candidate for Stage 2. The candidate must obtain the minimum qualifying marks in each section and more than the cut-off marks in aggregate to make it to the next stage. The minimum passing marks in the selection process of RRB NTPC CBT 1 for different categories are as follows:
● UR/EWS - 40%
● OBC/SC - 30%
● ST - 25%
In the CBT 1 paper, there is a negative marking of 1/3 for each incorrect answer.
Those who clear the stage 1 paper will be qualified for the second Computer Based Test (CBT 2) which is higher in difficulty level and conducted separately for different posts as per the level in the 7th CPC. The RRB NTPC selection process for CBT 2 includes the same subjects as CBT 1, but the number of questions is 120 which needs to be completed in 90 minutes of time. Based on the CBT 1 merit list, candidates equal to 20 times the number of total vacancies are shortlisted to take the Stage 2 CBT. Only after qualifying for this test, the selected candidates will get a call for the next stage exam as per the posts they have applied for.
The next stage in the selection process of RRB NTPC is the Skill Test. This is held as per the merit list of the Stage 2 CBT, and the number of selected candidates is 8 times the vacancies available. There are two types of tests according to the different posts. They are, namely, Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) and Typing Skill Test (TST).
Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):
Those who have applied for the post of Traffic Assistant and Station Master and have successfully cleared the first two stages of the RRB NTPC selection process will be called for the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). In the merit list, those who have scored at least 70% in CBT 2 and 30% in CBAT will be shortlisted. A minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries is required by the candidates to qualify this stage. There is no negative marking in CBAT and the questions will be asked in English and Hindi only.
Typing Skill Test:
Another type of skill test for the posts of Senior Time Keeper, Senior Clerk Cum Typist, Accounts Clerk, Junior Clerk Cum Typist, and Junior Time Keeper is the Typing Skill Test which is qualifying in nature. Candidates should type at least 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a personal computer without any editing tools to clear this exam.Based on the performance in CBT 2 and the Skill Test, candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for the Document Verification. Those who won’t appear for the DV stage will not be able to make it to the final merit list. At this stage of the RRB NTPC selection process, the candidate’s original documents are checked and verified by the officials such as the education certificate, mark sheet, category certificate, etc. Check the list of documents to be shown at this stage:
