ENGLISH
The English section has contained passages. It is one of the most scoring subjects to score. Therefore, follow the article of newspaper, sociology, fiction, and history. You can find the best set of RC’s question from the Law coaching institute.
A new entrant in the paper is passage-based grammar. You must’ve seen it in our CP mocks; 24 onward. This added with vocabulary – based questions give the candidates some relief from only reading. Basic questions on ARTICLES, DETERMINERS, PREPOSITIONS, and TENSES have been asked.
We can also expect some summary questions or other paragraph based questions. What does not change is the philosophy behind the paper. Which is not rote learning type questions will be asked. Overall the English section was easy. A good score here will be around 25–28 marks.
METHOD OF STUDY
One should continue practicing reading and comprehension. Purple books should suffice. Old mocks and past year papers. You can add grammar practice from the practice books. Will help in that one question set.
LEGAL
The passages have been taken from several opinion articles on contemporary issues. They are based either on Constitutional Law or on some general principles of law which cannot be restricted to any straitjacket field. The length of the passages is quite short. Some as small as 153 words while the largest one does not seem to be more than 400 words. The questions are playing around one or two principles of the passage. So, it is possible that while a student may answer all the questions under a passage correctly, it is also possible that she may simply get all of them wrong by missing that one principle which was focused on all the questions. This makes these questions almost a zero-sum game.
Change in the study pattern:
There isn’t any drastic change required. The hitherto approach of focusing on the ongoing issues of legal importance and good conceptual understanding of a few basics of Constitutional Law should suffice However, given the size of the questions, it is important that students focus on concentrating on all principles given in the passage and answering questions accurately. As time is not a big challenge, it is likely that most candidates will attempt their entire paper. Hence, it is now a test of accuracy.
Reasonable Score:
Scoring a 40/40 is not a difficult task. I have a couple of students in CP who have already done this in this paper. But, to be sure of a Top 100 rank, a score of 36–38 is a must, unless appropriately compensated by another section. The paper has no errors and the rationale given for each answer is quite good. It appears to have been made with a lot of effort and forethought.
CRITICAL REASONING
CR was the same fare as the previous sample paper. A well-covered range of all question types from evidence family (weaken and assumption questions), inference and conclusion, and structure questions (role played by sentences, one on parallel reasoning). Practice the best question of reasoning from our Law coaching classes Kolkata “Avision Institute”. A new entrant in this paper was deductive logic. And from this paper, we can conclude that the question, when it says to use both statements, means it. So SINGLE STATEMENT ANSWERS IN THIS CASE ARE OUT. A good score will be 19–21 marks
